The 2018 Roundup
Reflecting on 2018
It’s that time of the year again! It’s time to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, what we’ve achieved and what that means for us.
2018 has been an amazing year. As is the way with startups, the year has flown by. Here’s a quick peek into what our year has been like.
We raised money.
This summer we raised $400,000 from 2 strategic investors. If you’d like to learn more about that story, check it out on StartUp Here Toronto, as well as our blog.
After being at the Ryerson DMZ for a year and a half, we struck out on our own. We had an amazing experience there, every member of our team received great support from the DMZ community, whether it was sales, marketing or development. We had an amazing time, enjoyed great events and got to know our fellow startups in the community, thank you Ryerson DMZ and everyone on your team for having us! We’re enjoying our new office as well as regular visits from this sweet little guy! >>> 😍
Made lots of updates.
Who are we kidding. If you’re signed up with us, you saw our monthly updates. Every update was based on feedback that we received from regular users of Parlay. We’re constantly tweaking it to make sure that it’s the most useful tool for teachers in the classroom, making it simple to use, fast to set-up and easy to implement daily.
This year we started our first pilots and what an exciting ride it has been. We’ve learned so much from the schools who have participated. We were also able to conduct some research on discussions in the classroom, where we learned some interesting things about participation, read the research results to learn more. As our first pilots are coming to a close, we’d like to thank the schools who participated and everyone who helped to make it happen. Special thanks to Andrew Fenstermaker, Anamaria Dragoi and Dino Miele.
Pitched Parlay in Abu Dhabi.
We were invited to pitch Parlay at Krypto Labs in Abu Dhabi. At the event Bobby did an amazing job and our team won $20,000! Congratulations to all the other teams we met there. Everyone was amazing and it was great to see everyones passion for improving education. Thank you to Krypto Labs for having us, we hugely appreciate the opportunity.
Wall of Love.
Thank you so much to everyone who has shared their love of Parlay with others. This year has been an awesome year of growth and of learning and we cannot thank you enough but to share all of the kind words we’ve received by sharing them on our wall of love. Check it out!
Thank you to everyone who helped us out this year and who brought Parlay one step closer to achieving the reality of making discussions an everyday classroom activity. This year we really started to see that happen. Our core goal through all of this is to make sure that the pedagogy comes first and that students are succeeding in the classroom.
